Sheet Cutting Optimizer

Create a cutting layout for rectangular parts, compare material utilization and identify reusable offcuts. All calculations run in your browser without uploading your measurements.

Report a problem

How it works

  1. Add available sheets and offcuts with dimensions, quantities and optional prices.

  2. Enter parts and quantities. Configure saw kerf, edge trim and rotation or grain restrictions.

  3. Calculate a plan: the tool compares 12 strategies using straight guillotine cuts.

  4. Explore each sheet, review cut sequences and export drawings, CSV cut lists or a printable PDF report.

Frequently asked questions

Does the optimizer run in my browser?

Yes. Your device processes the dimensions, preferably in a separate task to keep the page responsive. No account or server upload is required.

What cutting method does the plan use?

Straight guillotine cuts: each cut crosses a rectangular segment of the sheet. The sequence assumes edge trimming is completed first. Curved nesting, internal cutouts and CNC code generation are not included.

Is the result guaranteed to be optimal?

The tool compares 12 strategies with different part orders, fitting criteria and cut directions. It selects the best result found for the configured priority, but does not guarantee an absolute minimum sheet count or cost.

How are saw kerf and edge trim handled?

Saw kerf reserves the strip removed by the blade. Trim is deducted from all four sheet edges. X and Y coordinates start at the top-left corner of the full sheet; the sequence lists internal cuts after edge trimming.

How can I preserve grain direction?

Enable grain along sheet height. Every part's height will stay parallel to the sheet's height without rotation. For materials without grain, you can allow or block 90-degree rotation per part type.

Can I use offcuts or multiple sheet sizes?

Yes. Add up to 10 sheet or offcut sizes of the same material and thickness with available quantities. Reusable offcuts are rectangles whose two sides meet the configured minimum. Calculate different materials or thicknesses as separate projects.

What are the limits?

Up to 100 part types, 500 total parts and 200 available sheets. Parts that do not fit, exceed stock or are not placed by the heuristic are listed separately.

Can I save or print a project?

Yes. Valid inputs are saved in this browser. Save a JSON file to open on another device. Export the selected sheet as SVG or PNG, all parts as CSV, or select Print / PDF to generate a report for every used sheet.
